Bacon Wrapped Water Chestnuts

Submitted by: Stephanie Mitton, Ottawa

“This is an appetizer that we would often have for family events. It reminds me of home and special occations with my family. ”

  • 2 Whole Water Chestnuts (227 ml)
  • 1 Pound of Bacon
  • Small bowl Yellow Mustard
  • Small bowl Brown Sugar
  • 1 Container of toothpics

Cooking Instructions

Turn the oven on to 350. Open cans of water chestnuts and drain. Open pack of bacon and cut bacon in half. Lay strips of bacon on a cookie sheet. Use the back of a spoon or a pastery brush and brush some mustard lightlitly coating each piece of bacon. Then sprinkle brown sugar on each piece of bacon on top of the musterd. Add a water chestnut to each piece of bacon and wrap up water chestnut in the bacon and secure with a tooth pic. Repeat until all the bacon is used up. You may have a few waterchestnuts left over. If you run out of room for the finished product you may need a second cookie sheet, one for preparing the appetizer and one for cooking. Then place your finished cookie sheet in the oven. Bake at 350 for 40 mins or until the bacon is ready to eat. I like mine crispy so I usually cook the appetizer for longer.
