Asian-style Flank Steak

  • 1 Good-sized flank steak, fat removed (to serve 6)
  • ¾ cup(s) soy sauce
  • 4 tsp(s) minced ginger (the finer the mince, the more flavour it will impart)
  • 2 cloves cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup(s) orange juice
  • 1/4 cup(s) sake or sherry
  • 3 tsp(s) sesame oil

Cooking Instructions

Place the flank steak in a dish and add the marinade ingredients. Refrigerate and marinate for 24 hours, turning after 12 hours. Barbecue the steak or broil it in the oven, turning once. It is best served medium. The marinade can be reduced to obtain a fairly liquid sauce that can be spooned over the meat. Because flank steak is a relatively chewy cut of meat, slice it against the grain into long, thin strips to serve. Serve with puréed squash and a green vegetable. It’s simply delicious and my guests always love it!

If your guests prefer their meat well done, cook the sliced beef in the sauce for a few minutes.
