“It's a great Christmas dessert, or breakfast!”
- 2 Apples
- 2 tbsp(s) Fresh lemon juice
- 2 tbsp(s) Packed dark brown sugar
- 1/4 cup(s) Water
- 1/4 cup(s) Rolled oats
- 1/8 tsp(s) Ground cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp(s) Salt
- 2 tsp(s) Cold unsalted butter, cut into bits
- 4 Baking dishes
Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Peel and cut the apples into halves, then core. Cut apples into thin slices and toss with the lemon juice and one tablespoon of brown sugar in a bowl. Divide apples among baking dishes, overlapping slices and sprinkle each serving with one tablespoon water. Bake on a baking sheet until apples are crisp-tender, about 20 minutes. During this time, stir oats, cinnamon, salt, and remaining tablespoon of brown sugar in a bowl until thoroughly mixed. Rub butter into oat mixture for topping until evenly distributed. Sprinkle topping over apples and bake until topping is golden - 25 to 30 minutes. Transfer dishes to rack to cool for at least 10 minutes.
*Add raisins, chocolate chips, extra cinnamon, nutmeg or nuts to add more flavour. Also, you can double the amount of the toppings if you like to have a thicker crumble.
