“This is a traditional Jamaican dish usually served for breakfast. It's special to me because it is one of my favorite dishes that my mother would make on holidays for our family breakfast.”

  • 1 lb(s) Boneless Codfish (saltfish)
  • 2 Cans Ackee
  • 2 Medium Onions
  • 2 Strips of bacon (optional)

  • 1/2 tsp(s) Black pepper
  • 2 Cloves of garlic

Cooking Instructions

First, the codfish needs to be soaked in cold water over night. When ready to cook, boil cod fish for 5-10 minutes in a pot. When done drain and flake cod fish into a bowl. Next dice the bacon strips, onions, green peppers and tomatoes. Heat vegetable oil in saucepan and sauté bacon, onions, green pepper and tomatoes for about 5-10 minutes. Next add flaked codfish, thyme, black pepper, garlic, paprika, and hot pepper to the saucepan and stir for about 5 minutes. Open the cans of ackee and drain, and then add ackee to saucepan, toss lightly, cover and allow to stand over low heat for about 5 – 10 minutes. Serve warm and enjoy!!!
